Thanks to the policies set in place by the Board, and the trust our patrons have in the staff, the Rye Free Reading Room was able to quickly address the matter shared by the Rye Police Department on November 14 and involve the appropriate authorities. The library has policies in place to prevent unaccompanied adults in specific areas, such as the Teen Room, Children’s Room, and Discovery Zone, and staff regularly monitor those spaces and enforce those rules.
The library worked with the teens and their parents to report the incidents to the police, and filed a trespassing complaint to ban the individual from any future access to the library. Staff have been notified to call the police immediately
On behalf of the Rye Free Reading Room, I would like to express my gratitude to Public Safety Commissioner Michael Kopy and Detective Commander Lieutenant Michael Anfuso for their support and quick response.
